celestrial bodies

 Burok , Leeuwarden  5.-28. september 2003

On the basis of the known materials and typical colours white, blue and red Barbara Lorenz Höfer positions numerous differently shaped objects into the accessible room of the old cored cigaret manufacture kunstzaal burok.  At a time of  cosmic interest, when Mars was particularly close to Earth on its orbit and astronomy as well as astrology were discussing the psychical and physical effects on the human being, the" Celestial bodies" seemed like fallen into the large room of cold blue light like shooting stars

The oval objects seem to hover above the ground, the vital red shines from inside into the blue coldness. However, because of the room's accessibility a new feeling of being one emerges - the observer becomes part of the cosmic path which creates itself differently and new, from each point of view.  Tight to bust is the experience of body and space in their interactions, and something breaks up in the stringent structure of this installation:  a distant space has developed which in its concentrated silence not only admits, but also demands the liberating primal scream.

of craftsmanship and to her significant choice of colours.  All the shapes have been derived from the genetic and geometric repertoire, they seem familiar to us:  they remind us of architectural shapes like housings, domes and steeples which offer warm protection from the outside and turn down outer threats by means of their aggressive tips - or even do they remind us of female breasts, those places where feelings are kept in captivity or human pains and joys are stored. (Jutta de Vries )
